Marriage nowadays no longer carries the traditional symbol that it used to. Marriage used to be a physical and visual commitment of two people spending the rest of their lives together. No one is perfect and going through the bump and grind of a relationship is all part of a healthy marriage. Communication, empathy and a long-lasting love are a small part of many factors that can influence a healthy and lengthy marriage.
Although not many couples stick to the ‘till death do us part’ part, this husband showed that he is a man of his words.
Read on to discover the story of Jon Newman and his wife.
Unconditional love is usually an attribute designated towards the Son of God and mothers. Very rarely do we see men or masculine figures displaying such extreme affection.
But when Jon Newman’s wife was diagnosed with cancer, he not only stayed by her side but demonstrated what real true love actually looks like.
It was late last October when Mrs. Newman was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Thyroid cancer affects thyroid cells which can cause it to invade, destroy and grow into other tissues.
Thyroid cells contain hormones that help break down food into energy. They also assist in maintaining homeostasis with body temperature and also with heart rate and breathing.
Due to Mrs.Newman’s radiation treatment, she had to be placed in isolation so as not to affect the other family members.
This meant that Jon couldn’t physically stay by his wife’s bedside, but it certainly wasn’t due to a lack of trying.
But little did Jon know that his 17-year-old daughter, Mackenna Newman, had snapped (what would turn out to become viral) a photo of him by his wife’s door.
On Twitter, Mackenna wrote: ‘my mom has to stay in her room in isolation for her cancer radiation so my dad set up a desk at her door to keep her company and I’m crying.’
This obviously heartwarming photo immediately went viral with tons of viewers and followers responding with ‘aww’ and ‘get better soon.’
Some viewers went as far as to say that the couple is the epitome of the ‘in sickness and in health’ wedding vows, as well as being a true representation of true love.
Mackenna, in an interview, went on to say that her father was by her mother’s side this whole ‘entire time.’ Jon was there when his wife had to go through diagnosis, treatment, administering of drugs and many many more procedures.
In an interview, Mrs. Newman has said that: ‘Jon goes to every doctor’s appointment, every blood test, every surgery, every radiation.’
Furthermore, she stated that: ‘and, as you can see, if he can’t be by my side he is as close as he can get!’ This is real and true love indeed and many more couples should pattern themselves after this loving pair.
But to Jon, he isn’t doing anything spectacular, outstanding or noteworthy. He is simply performing the duties of a loyal and loving husband.
He truly does embrace the biblical passage that reads: ‘husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.’
Here is to hoping that Mrs.Newman can make a safe and speedy recovery and that the Newman family can once again share a room together!
