He Has Had Over 55 Surgeries, And Been Bullied His Whole Life. Now, He Needs Your Prayers
According to his family, Austin is an intelligent and gentle boy who has been bullied for something he cannot control.
Austin has what is called Goldenhar Syndrome, which causes a craniofacial birth defect of the face and head, usually affecting the eyes, ears, and vertibrae.
Austin is now 17-years old. He has had over 55 surgeries, including a cleft lip and pallet repair, G-Tube, Tracheotomy, Bone anchored hearing aid, external ear reconstruction, Bone Grafts, Orthodontia, and multiple Mandible Distractions.
“(Hello friends near and far, I wanted to post an update for you all, Austin will be having surgery on June 28th.
This surgery is to repair his small pallet, his right nostril, and his mouth. The benefits to all of this is to help him eat, and breathe better and to close his mouth while he sleeps.
I have just recently received letters from the state to disconnect/or remove Austin from his state disability since he turned 17 last month. This is a formality as he ages into adult hood. It just came a shock to me that they would start the process and notify me of the changes.
So this had me thinking of how I can afford to support Austin thru all the new changes. As you all know I am a single mom of 3 wonderful kids, and I sometimes work up to 3 jobs just to pay for our normal life.
I have been in prayer these last couple weeks trying to think of ways to financially support Austin with all of his medical needs that will follow him for the rest of his life, should his disability be canceled indefinitely, or take a long time to go thru the appeals process to get him reinstated.
I receive on a daily basis requests from people to reopen this donation site they want to help Austin in so many ways and give to a great kid, I have gotten these messages and requests for almost 2 years now.
I do not want to take from people that are in the same situation as I, but I also have to be realistic, I am only one person and I want the best for my son, I don’t ever want him to go with out any kind of medical miracle if I can help it. You all have loved and cared for my son and pray for him, and so I will leave this in Gods capable hands.
Thank you to every single person that has loved my son and has financially supported him. You are an amazing soul.
Thank you for being apart of our lives and supporting us over these last few years. Your love has gotten me thru some really tough days. We often read your letters, comments and messages.
You fuel us to be the best we can be. Thank you for that in every way.
Just when I think I cant keep going I will get a message of encouragement from someone and it changes my whole day. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.)
“Austin’s next surgery will be his 56th.
It is on June 28th 2017. This next surgery is to repair his small pallet (Pharyngeal flap surgery is a procedure to correct the airflow during speech. The procedure is common among people with cleft palate, also helps the air flow when eating and drinking.)
He will also have his right nostril repaired as it has no air flow thru it at all, he will have his trach hole repaired, and his lips, as his lips do not close on their own therefore drinking from a straw is challenging.
This way he can chew his food better, have a closed mouth when he sleeps, the pallet repair will give him better sleep, eating function, and a more clear speech.
Thank you for your generosity and wish us luck. God Bless.
